Numeracy Challenges

Welcome to the new Numeracy Challenge page, below you will find some of this month’s numeracy challenge.
All answers must be emailed to the following address by the end of each month to numeracy@prescurrylea.com
You must submit an answer for each problem separately using Minor, Junior or Senior as subject.

All Junior Certificate students (1st , 2nd and 3rd year) can enter the Junior category.

The Minor category  is open to First Years only

All students can enter the Senior category.

One person can enter more than one category

Numeracy Challenges for September:

Minor:
The total population of all Gaeltacht areas in April 2016 was 96,090. Of these, 66.3% indicated they could speak Irish. Find the percentage of people who indicated they could not speak Irish.

Junior:
The total population of all Gaeltacht areas in April 2016 was 96,090. Of these, 66.3%, indicated they could speak Irish. Find out the number of people who indicated they could not speak Irish. Round your answer to the nearest whole number.

Senior:
Of the total number of persons aged 17 and 18,  33% (40,458) answered ‘no’ to the question “Can you speak Irish?” Calculate the total number of persons aged 17 and 18 who answered ‘yes’ to the question. Give your answer correct to 2 significant figures.
